Community awareness of breast disease, including breast cancer, has improved significantly over recent years. Despite this, about one in twelve Australian women still develop breast cancer at some stage in their lives, with many other breast problems also causing concern.
We often have a tendency to put off seeing a doctor for something that may or may not be serious. complaint. Yet, early detection and treatment is vital in the successful management of breast disease.
The Epworth Freemasons Breast Clinic was established in 1986 to meet the special needs of women in this very personal area of health. Over the years, many women have come to rely on the expertise at the Clinic to provide an annual breast check up and to record and advise of any changes in the breast area.
Our Service
When you make an appointment at the Breast Clinic, you will be advised to wear a two-piece outfit on the appointment day. Upon arrival, you can choose to use the dressing gowns that are provided to reduce the inconvenience of dressing after each phase of your consultation.
At each visit, you will receive a careful and complete clinical assessment by a female doctor skilled in breast examination. Then, if required, specialist radiology of the breast using mammogram and/or ultrasound techniques will be provided by an on-site radiology practice that conveniently adjoins the Breast Clinic.
After your mammogram, the same doctor will explain the results of the test and provide advice on breast self-examination and the future care of your breasts.
Should the doctor feel that a specialist opinion is required, a breast surgeon visits the clinic each day.
